The list of practices and infrastructures presented in this page are not exhaustive and some limitations may apply. Come in to discuss your project!
"Within-the-Field" Practices
COVER CROPS First users can obtain up to $25/acre and prior users can receive $15/acre for 1 year through the Water Quality Initiative. First time or prior users can receive $25/acre for 1-4 years through IFIP. GRASSED WATERWAYS To prevent gully erosion are cost-shared at up to 50% with a 10-year Maintenance Agreement. A yearly rental payments can reach $205/ acre under CRP. |
"Edge-of-the-Field" Practices
WINDBREAK Installation is reimbursed at 75%, or up to $1600 or $600/ acre depending of the type of windbreak. This practice has a 20-year Maintenance Agreement. SATURATED BUFFERS & BIOREACTORS They can remove excessive nitrogen from tile water. Their installation is cost-shared at 75%. Yearly rental rate payment could reach $205/ acre under CRP. FIELD BORDERS Facilitate the turning of farm equipment in field areas that are often less productive. The installation is cost-shared at 50% and comes with a 5-year Performance Agreement.

Within and on the Edge of the Field Practices
TERRACE & BASIN:
Financial assistance for installation is of up to 50% of eligible costs with a 20-year Maintenance Agreement. RIPARIAN BUFFER & FILTER STRIP: The installation is reimbursed at up to 50% with a 5-year Performance Agreement. The yearly rental payment could reach $205/ acre under CRP. PRAIRIE STRIPS: May be installed on up to 25% of the cropland acres in a field and may be 30 to 120 feet wide. It is permissible o drive on CRP Prairie Strips during normal cropping activities so these can be sued as field border on steep slopes to avoid the need for end rows. |
Backyard Conservation
The installation of these water protection practices are reimbursed at 50% with a 10-year maintenance agreement: - Rain gardens and native landscaping. - Rain management infrastructures such as permeable pavers, bioswale and other types of retention and filtration basins. - Wetlands, storm water wetlands and ponds. |

Grazing Practices
CATTLE WATERING FACILITIES Includes practices such as livestock pipelines, nose pumps, and protection of heavy use areas. Financial assistance can reach 50% of eligible costs. RETENTION PONDS The installation can be reimbursed at 50% when the purpose is to provide source water to cattle . FENCING SYSTEMS For rotational grazing or stream protection can be reimbursed at 50-75%. |
