Important Information & Deadlines
Incentive programs that promote the adoption of Cover Crops are very popular. Apply early because the funding goes fast! The funding sources are: IFIP, WQI, e-QIP, & CSP.
The general sign up for CRP closed February 12th, 2021.
Continuous CRP sign up for Prairie & Buffer strips are still ongoing but the deadline for land that is re-enrolled in CRP in this fiscal year will be August.

State Cost-Share Programs:
Iowa Financial Incentive Program (IFIP)
We administer this cost-share program with the help of the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship. Through IFIP, we offer up to 50% of the actual (eligible) or estimated cost of the practice installation. The practices that are covered by the program include: Terraces, Sediment Basins, Grade Stabilization Structures/Ponds, Grassed Waterways, Pasture, Hayland Planting, Critical Area Planting, Field Borders and Filter Strips.
Resource Enhancement and Protection Program (REAP)
The state of Iowa runs this program. REAP may provide money for projects through the state agency budget or grant programs. Based on the submission of a proposal and allotment, REAP may be available for soil conservation practices through the Soil and Water Conservation District. REAP may provide cost share for practices which may include: Conservation Cover, Forest Stand Improvement, Windbreaks, Tree Planting, Site Preparation for Natural Regeneration, Rescue Treatment, Riparian Forest Buffer, Prescribed Grazing, Fencing System, Contour Buffer Strips, Access Control, Restored or Constructed Wetlands and Streambank & Shoreline Protection.
Iowa's Water Quality Initiative (WQI)
This program was established to help implement the Nutrient Reduction Strategy (NRS). The goal of the NRS is to reduce the nitrogen and phosphorus by 45% with the use of integrated approaches to improve water quality that includes point and non-point sources working together. WQI seeks collective ability from both private and public resources and organizations in order to support Iowans to implement practices to reduce nutrient loss an improve water quality. WQI may provide statewide funding for: Cover Crops, Nitrification Inhibitor (First Time Users Only) & No-Till or Strip-Till (First Time Users Only).
Federal( Farm Bill) Programs:
Environmental Quality Incentives Program (e-QIP)
Voluntary conservation program for farmers and ranchers to promote agricultural and environmental quality goals. This particular program offers financial and technical assistance for eligible participants in order to install and/or implement structural and management practices on eligible agricultural land. Implementation of recommended practices must be done that meets or exceeds NRCS technical standards adapted for local conditions. Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP)
A conservation program that encourage producers to address resource concerns to improve, maintain, and manage existing conservation activities. This program provides financial and technical assistance to eligible producers to conserve and enhance soil, water, air, and related natural resources on their land. Conservation Reserve Program (CRP)
This conservation program is administered by FSA. Farmers who are enrolled in the program agree to remove environmentally sensitive land from agricultural production and complete seeding of species that will improve environmental health and quality. CRP contracts may be 10 or 15 years long. The goal for this program is to reestablish valuable land cover to prevent soil erosion, improve water quality, and increase habitat for wildlife.
